Arshdeep Singh Reflects on Bowling to Shubman Gill and Sudharsan During India’s Opening Net Session

Arshdeep Singh shares his insights ahead of first test

India’s left-arm quick bowler Arshdeep Singh shared valuable insights from the net session ahead of the first Test against England, starting at Headingley on June 20.

Arshdeep Singh Ready for the Challenge!

Arshdeep got a big career opportunity when he was picked in the Test squad ahead of Harshit Rana and Mohammed Shami for this high-stakes series. Being a left-arm seamer gives him an advantage in English conditions, especially since he already played for Kent in the County Championship, where he took 13 wickets. This experience has helped him get familiar with the conditions in England.

In a recent net session, Arshdeep had the chance to bowl to Indian captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan. He found it challenging, which he believes will help him improve his skills. According to Arshdeep, Shubman Gill was tough to bowl to and looked in good touch during the session.

"There was a lot of competitiveness with the batters. We enjoyed it. As bowlers, we had to grind and make proper plans to get the batter out. Sai, who has joined the team for the first time, looked compact. The skipper looked in good touch. I hope the banter keeps going," Arshdeep said in a video posted by the BCCI.

Meanwhile, Arshdeep is focusing on his fitness and finding the right rhythm to adapt to the longer format.

"The main motive was to bring the body to rhythm, to get a feel of how the red ball was coming out of the hand, because a lot of players were playing white-ball cricket for a long time. As we go ahead, the intensity will increase, and we will try to make it hard for batters to face the ball," he added.

No Comparison with Jasprit Bumrah

Arshdeep feels there’s no comparison between him and Jasprit Bumrah. While he considers himself the best when he picks up the ball, he respects Bumrah’s skill and believes the focus should be on helping each other improve.

Arshdeep Singh is on the verge of earning his maiden Test cap, and from his insights, he seems well-prepared for the challenge ahead. Stay tuned for more updates on India’s tour of England 2025.
