Indian skipper Shubman Gill is in the form of his life, scoring 585 runs at an average of 146 in just 4 innings, and chasing records with 3 Tests remaining in the series. Gill smashed 269 runs in the first innings and followed it with 163 in the second, leading India to a massive 336-run win over England at Edgbaston.

With the young skipper dominating the series, former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly praised Gill’s form and resilience while urging him to remain cautious ahead of the third Test at Lord’s, which begins on Thursday, 10th July.

Ganguly Highlights India’s Resilience and Gill’s Rising Stardom

Ganguly, who addressed the press on his 53rd birthday, also shared advice for the Indian team. He lauded India’s strong comeback win at Edgbaston following the loss in the Leeds Test.

“India has played well. They are playing well. Even though they lost in Leeds, India has played well. But again, next Test, it's a long way to go. It's too early to say,” Ganguly told IANS while speaking to reporters on his birthday.

Speaking about Shubman Gill, Ganguly expressed happiness over the 25-year-old’s performance, especially his maiden double century. However, he advised Gill to stay grounded and prepare well for the remainder of the series.

“260, it's phenomenal. I'm sure his career will take a new direction. And I believe that he's a middle-order player. Right now, it's a honeymoon period, so tomorrow the expectations will be high. Four days later, the tests will be increased,” he said, as quoted by NDTV Sports.

“Lively Pitch Favors India,” Says Ganguly Ahead of Lord’s Test

Looking ahead to the Lord’s Test, Ganguly expects a balanced pitch that could slightly favour India. He believes the Indian batters will adapt well to the grassy surface and called on the bowlers to capitalize on the conditions.

“A lively pitch is India's advantage. Our batsmen will score well. We will be in a position to take 20 wickets. We can take 20 wickets. It's an equal advantage,” Ganguly said.

He also stressed the importance of consistency and commitment from the entire squad, reminding that the series is far from over.

With the series currently tied 1-1, England has announced their playing XI for the third Test, with Jofra Archer replacing Josh Tongue. For India, Jasprit Bumrah’s return is expected, adding to the anticipation ahead of the crucial clash at Lord’s Cricket Ground.
