Pant, Rahul Notch Up Key Milestones

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant scored his eighth Test ton and became the first Indian keeper-batsman to score a century in each Test innings. He was previously dismissed seven times in the 90s before this Test match.

Since Gill's dismissal, everything went India's way. Pant and Rahul shared a 195-run stand for the fourth wicket to leave the England bowlers frustrated. While Rahul played with a cautious approach, Pant's flamboyance came to the fore as his innings progressed. He became a little cautious as he was nearing his century. It was a chanceless partnership with Rahul getting a life as he was dropped by Harry Brook.

Pant disturbed the line and length of the England bowlers. Skipper Ben Stokes used every trick up his sleeve to break the partnership but the bowlers did not respond. Rahul brought up his ton first, followed by Pant who went on to hit some big shots after going past his century.

England spinner Shoaib Bashir finally dismissed him after Pant had scored 118 runs off 140 deliveries with 15 fours and three sixes. Karun Nair then joined Rahul at the stroke of tea and opened his account with a boundary. The Indian tailenders need to contribute in the second innings, something which they failed to do in the first innings.
