Ireland are back in action, this time hosting West Indies for a three-match T20I series, beginning June 12 at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast.
Ireland will be keen to build on their spirited ODI outing against the same opponents last month. That series ended evenly poised at 1-1. Ireland opened with a 124-run win, but the visitors came roaring back and registered a 194-run (DLS) victory in the final game.
Ireland’s plans for the T20I leg have hit a snag. Star pacer Josh Little has been ruled out due to a niggle. Graham Hume has replaced him. Also missing from the squad are Curtis Campher, Craig Young, and Gareth Delany due to respective injuries, leaving Ireland slightly short on experience.
Skipper Paul Stirling will rely on seasoned campaigners like Mark Adair, who returns to the team, while also banking on the promise of rising names such as Tim Tector, Gavin Hoey and Stephen Doheny.
As for the West Indies, this tour presents an opportunity for damage control after a forgettable outing in England. The Caribbean side suffered 3-0 defeats in both white-ball formats during that tour, raising plenty of questions back home. Shai Hope and his men now have a chance to respond.
