The official schedule for the LA 2028 Olympics has been announced with cricket to be played from July 12-29. The tournament will be played from July 15-30.
However, cricket will begin early, as early as July 12 with as many as six teams to participate in the event. There will be six teams each across the men's and women's categories. The same was confirmed earlier by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
However, the qualification criteria for the teams across categories will be decided at an upcoming meeting scheduled to be held in Singapore between July 17-20. Meanwhile, Los Angeles is gearing up to host the main event.

Cricket And Hockey Scheduled From July 12-29
Cricket and Hockey will be starting earlier than the rest of the games as per the released schedule. Both games will be played from July 12-19. The rest of the games will start from July 15. The Olympic Games will conclude on July 30.
Cricket matches will be played in two halves. The first set of matches will be played from July 12-18. The medal matches will be played on July 19. After a short break, the second set of matches will be played from July 22 to 28, with the final scheduled for July 29.
"The gender sequence for events in the 2028 Games is not yet available. As stated in today's release, 'A more detailed schedule with medal events and gender order will be released later this year,’" said LA28.
All matches will be held at the Fairgrounds Cricket Stadium in Pomona, located 48 kms from Los Angeles. Preparations are in full swing to get the venue ready to host the iconic tournament. The tournament is still 1096 days down the line.
"For nearly a century, this location has served as the home of the annual LA County Fair and hosts a variety of year-round events, including trade shows, conventions and sporting events. The sprawling grounds will serve as the backdrop for Cricket's triumphant return to the Olympic Games-128 years in the making," LA28 release said.

Teams To Be Selected Based On ICC Rankings
The qualification criteria will be the main talking point in the upcoming meeting in Singapore. Most probably the teams will be selected based on their ICC rankings across men's and women's categories as per reports. The ICC is also being requested to host a qualification round before the main event which is highly unlikely. Cricket will be played in the T20 format in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
