Pakistan's skipper, Agha Salman, spoke at the pre-tournament press conference ahead of the Asia Cup 2025 and made it clear — he doesn't believe India are outright favourites, despite their dominant record. While acknowledging India’s eight Asia Cup titles, Agha believes the tournament is wide open

Fresh from the captains’ photoshoot with the trophy, Agha fielded questions ahead of Match 1. He reflected on Pakistan’s recent tri-series win over Afghanistan, calling it a stepping stone rather than the main objective.
"The Tri-Series was a build-up event. If you won it, great. If not, it still didn't change the fact that the real goal was to come here, play good cricket, and win the Asia Cup."

Agha: “No Clear Favourites” as India Chase Ninth Title, Backs Aggressive Pacers
India enter the competition as the most successful team in Asia Cup history, with a record eight titles. Under Suryakumar Yadav's leadership, they’ll be aiming for a ninth. But Agha isn’t buying into the favourites tag.
“I don't think there's really a favourite. In T20 cricket, anything can change within an hour or two. On any given day, you just have to play good cricket,” he said.
Addressing questions about his bowlers’ aggression, Agha backed his pacers’ natural intensity — as long as it stays within the spirit of the game.
"Fast bowlers are naturally aggressive, and you can't take that away from them — that's what drives them. Whoever wants to show that aggression on the field is free to do so, as long as it stays within the spirit of the game. From my side, there are no restrictions," he added.
Pakistan kick off their Asia Cup campaign against Oman on 12th September, followed by the high-voltage clash against India on 14th September in Dubai. They wrap up the group stage against UAE in their final fixture.
