RCB issues an official statement after stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium kills fans

RCB IPL Victory Parade: Tragedy strikes Bengaluru

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have issued an official statement after a stampede broke outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, which killed 11 people and left several injured. After RCB lifted its maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy after 18 years by beating Punjab Kings (PBKS) by six runs, the Karnataka Government organized an open bus parade for the winning team from a place till the end of M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The event was supposed to start at 3:30 PM on Wednesday, June 04.

However, things went completely out of control after more than 2.5 lakh people had gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Police Officials could not control such a huge crowd as the KSCA did not anticipate huge crowds would turn out. There were reports that the crowds started to gather outside the stadium in the morning only.

In the official statement, RCB felt deeply anguished by the loss of 11 lives and has extended their heartfelt condolences to the affected families. Upon knowing about the tragic news, RCB promptly amended the program and followed the guidance and advice of the local administration.

RCB's title-winning celebrations turn into tragedy

For the unversed, RCB's wait to win their elusive IPL title ended on June 03 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Krunal Pandya played a starring role in the victory as he ended up taking two wickets, giving away just 17 runs. His spell was a game-changing one as PBKS could not recover from the twin strikes and fell short of 190 runs by just six runs. After 18 years, RCB's moment in the sun came, however, the celebrations ended in a tragedy due to 11 deaths.
