In a recent development regarding Rishabh Pant’s injury update, former CSK wicket-keeper batter Narayan Jagadeesan is set to replace the Indian vice-captain in the 5th Test. There was speculation about Ishan Kishan joining the squad, but an unfortunate injury he suffered in an accident has made him unavailable.
Indian vice-captain Rishabh Pant sustained a toe injury while batting in the 1st innings in Manchester. Attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes’ delivery, he missed the ball, which struck his right toe on the full. Pant left the field with visible swelling and was immediately taken for scans.
Pant’s Role Limited to Batting; Set to Miss Final Test
As speculation around Pant’s condition grew, the BCCI released an update confirming that he would be available to bat if required. However, Dhruv Jurel would take over the wicket-keeping duties. Reports further suggest that Pant’s availability was limited to the 4th Test, and he is now expected to miss the final Test of the series in London.

According to Cricbuzz, the BCCI and national selectors have identified 29-year-old Narayan Jagadeesan from Tamil Nadu as Pant’s replacement, and an official announcement is expected soon.
Ishan Kishan Unavailable
There were initial rumours linking Ishan Kishan currently with Nottinghamshire, playing County Cricket as a possible replacement. However, he recently suffered a minor accident in which he injured his ankle and required 10 stitches, ruling him out of contention.
Jagadeesan’s Ranji Form Boosts His Case
Jagadeesan recently had an impressive first-class season for Tamil Nadu. He has played 52 matches, scoring 3,373 runs at an average of 47.52, including a triple century with a highest score of 321. In the most recent Ranji season, he amassed 674 runs in eight matches at an average of 56.16, with two centuries and five fifties the most by any Tamil Nadu batter in the competition.
However, Jagadeesan is unlikely to make his debut in the 5th Test, as Dhruv Jurel is expected to start ahead of him. KL Rahul, who is fit and available to keep wickets, is another option. Gautam Gambhir may also consider bringing in an all-rounder in place of Pant for the London Test.
