South Africa and Australia gear up for the biggest Test match of the year. The two teams will face-off in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final, beginning June 11, at the Lord's in London.
After two WTC finals dominated by India’s presence, Test cricket is about to get a fresh script. For South Africa, this is an opportunity to shed the chokers tag that’s haunted them since forever. For Australia, it is a chance to stamp their control on a format they have long prided themselves on.
The Temba Bavuma-led side has won their last seven Test matches. They finished at the top of the WTC 2023-25 points table and during the cycle, the only series that they lost was versus New Zealand.
South Africa have not won an ICC title since the 1998 Champions Trophy. They have reached semi-finals and finals, only to fall at the last hurdle, often in ways that defy logic. They would be looking to break that jink this time around.
Pat Cummins and Co. carry the muscle memory of winning the previous WTC final in 2023 as they defeated India. Steve Smith still looks as composed as ever. Travis Head, whose century in the previous WTC final swung the match, remains their x-factor. Usman Khawaja has found a new opening partner in Marnus Labuschagne.

Lord’s has always had something in it for the fast-bowlers, especially when there’s a bit of grass left on the surface. The pitch for the WTC is expected to be the same. That should keep the pacers interested for at least the first day or two. Spinners will come into play as the match progresses.
