Mumbai Indians IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated the Delhi Capitals (DC) by 59 to seal their spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs. They became the fourth and final team to make it to the playoffs after beating Delhi by a comfortable margin.

Like in the past, in this season and particularly in this match, they made a comeback from behind to seal the deal against DC. This has been one of the best comebacks made by the franchise this season.

MI have already qualified with a game to go and they will take on Punjab Kings on May 26. If they beat PBKS, they can eventually finish third on the IPL 2025 points table, provided Punjab loses both their last two games.

Top 5 Instances of Mumbai Indians' Comeback In IPL

Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at five instances of MI making a roaring comeback from behind to make it to the playoffs to eventually winning the title. As of now, they have won five titles, with the last in IPL 2020.

Reaching IPL 2025 Playoffs

MI lost their first two games to CSK and GT. Their first win of the season came against KKR which they won by 8 wickets. Sadly, they again lost two games on the bounce, first against LSG ( by 12 runs) and then against RCB ( by 12 runs).

The five-time champions then went on a rampant run, winning six games on the trot. They lost their final game before the season was postponed to GT by three wickets in a rain-curtailed encounter. After the season resumed, they faced DC in a must-win game and dominated the Capitals as they won by 59 runs. Suryakymar Yadav (583 runs in 13 games) led MI's comeback with the bat while Trent Boult (19 wickets ) and Jasprit Bumrah (16 wickets) have led the charge with the ball.

Finishing Fourth Place In 2014

Though MI did not win the season in 2014, the season was a story about their comeback. They lost all five games in their UAE leg and it looked like they would finish at the bottom of the table. However, back in India, they won seven out of their remaining nine games to reach the playoffs. They won a memorable match against RR in 2014 when they had to chase 192 runs in 14.5 overs. They found an unlikely hero in Corey Anderson who scored an unbeaten 95 to win the match for them. Aditya Tare's last-ball six sealed the deal for MI.

Winning 2015 IPL Title

MI started the season with five losses from their first six games in the season. When the first half ended they had just two points on the board. In the second of the season, they staged a memorable comeback, winning seven out of their final 8 league games. They beat CSK in the first qualifier and then again in the final to win their second IPL title. Back in 2013, MI beat CSK in the final to win their first IPL title.

Making IPL 2012 Playoffs

MI reached the IPL 2025 playoffs finishing third on the points table. They lost three out of their first seven games to start the season. In the second half of the season, they won seven out of their last nine games to make it to the playoffs. They eventually lost the Eliminator to bow out of the tournament.

Winning IPL 2020 title

This was the best campaign for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. They had assembled the best squad to have ever played for MI in the IPL. They lost two of the first three games to start their campaign. Mumbai then won five games on the bounce before they lost their second game on the Super Over to Punjab Kings. Mumbai then again won three out of their final five games to top the points table and make it to the playoffs. Overall, they won nine games and lost just five in the league stage. They defeated Delhi Capitals in Qualifier 1 and also in the final to win their fifth IPL title.
