Sarfaraz Khan is an Indian International cricketer. Born on 22nd October, 1997, the right armed batter is currently 27 years of age. The ace batter has made his Test debut for his country, however, he is still waiting for his chance in white ball cricket.
Sarfaraz Naushad Khan was born in Mumbai. Traditionally a right handed batter, he is also a part-time bowler. Though a part time spinner, he likes bowling leg breaks. Nicknamed Sarfu by his teammates, Sarfaraz acts like a rock in the middle order whose main job is to score big runs when the top order collapses.
Sarfaraz plays the domestic cricket for Mumbai. He made his IPL debut in 2015 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After that he has played for Punjab Kings, and Delhi Capitals. He has represented India in the U-19 World Cups back in 2014 and 2016.
His international debut came against England in 2024 and went on to slam twin fifties on his Test debut. He also became the fourth Indian to achieve this rare feat. Meanwhile, he also slammed the fastest debut fifty by an Indian, overall-being the joint fastest, after achieving his half-century in just 48 deliveries.
He is also the youngest player to debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at just 17 years and 177 days of age.
Sarfaraz Naushad Khan was born on 22nd October 1997. As of 2025 he is currently 27 years of age. Built athletically, Sarfaraz underwent strict weight loss to get back in shape very recently. At a height of 5ft 10 in or 178 cm, Sarfaraz is an anchor in India’s batting order.
Though Sarfaraz was born in Mumbai, his family hails from Uttar Pradesh. His father Naushad Khan is a former club cricketer and has coached Sarfaraz from his childhood. He has two brothers, Musheer who is a young cricketer and Moin Khan.
Sarfaraz spent his child at Azad Maidan practicing cricket. As a result, he reportedly lost 4 years of school owing to his cricket commitments. His journey then gained the spotlight when he played well in the Harris Shield, the tournament which also drew attention to a very young Sachin Tendulkar, during the latter’s childhood days.
According to the internet, Sarfaraz attended the Rizvi Springfield School in Mumbai. His performance in the Harris Shield earned his spot in the Indian U-19 side.
He represented India in two U-19 World Cups, in 2014 and 2016. In 2014, though India finished fifth, Sarfaraz was the highlight of the show having scored 211 from 6 games with a impressive average of 70.33. In 2016, India were the runners-up and Sarfaraz was the second-highest run getter with 355 runs from 6 games and an average of 71.
His impressive performance in the U19 World Cup 2014 saw RCB cashing in 2.4 crore on the youngster in the 2015 auction. At 17 years of age, he became the youngest player to play an IPL match. In 2019 he was released by RCB and Punjab Kings wasted no time to rope in the player. In the IPL 2022 Mega Auction, Delhi Capitals got their star player.
Both in IPL and international cricket, Sarfaraz wears the 97 jersey. This number is a tribute to his father. 97 in Hindi translates to (Nau=9, sat= 7) cumulating to Naushad, his father’s name.
In Test cricket, Sarfaraz either plays as an anchor or a power hitter depending on the course of the game. In IPL, he dons the pinch hitter role, coming in late to give his team a grand finish.
Sarfaraz got his light under the sun in the England tour of India 2024. He got his place in the team after injuries to Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul. He slammed dual fifties on his Test debut at Rajkot. He has scored 371 runs in Tests from 11 innings with his highest being 150.
Sarfaraz Khan got married on 6th August, 2023 to Romana Zahoor. On 21st October 2024, the couple welcome their son.
Not much is known about the off-field lifestyle of Sarfaraz Khan. He recently underwent huge transformation, where he lost 17 kgs in just 2 months. He claimed having adopted to a much cleaner diet.
Back in 2017 knee injury during a practice game. The injury became serious and he was ruled out of the entire 2017 IPL edition. In 2024, he suffered a rib injury during practice in Australia, for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He returned to India and underwent rehab.
Sarfaraz undergoes 4-5 days of intense training in a week. He focuses on stamina and core strengthening activities.
His net worth is estimated to be around ₹16.6 crore approximately. He has a BCCI C grade contract meaning he earns 1 crore every year. While he went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction, Sarfaraz has earned quite some money during his stint in the IPL.
He serves as a brand ambassador for Mashroo, an apparel brand.
Currently, he is focussed on his training and getting back in shape. Among other activities, he loves eating biriyani.
Very little is known about his community work. But, during the Covid-19 Pandemic, the Khan helped the migrant workers returning to their home.
