Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are likely to include their new recruit Dewald Brevis in the playing XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). This is a must-win game for both sides, but more so for CSK, who is placed last on the points table.
CSK has had a forgetful campaign so far in IPL 2025. They have just won two out of their first eight games. They had a five-match losing streak before winning their second game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). They lost their previous match against Mumbai Indians (MI).
The absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad was a massive blow to their batting lineup. Youngsters Ayush Mhatre and Shaikh Rasheed have impressed as well. However, the side is missing the firepower at the top.

Dewald Brevis Is A Good Addition To The Squad: Stephen Fleming
The inclusion of Dewald Brevis is one of the decisions that they have thought about hard and long. The young South African batter joined as an injury replacement and has been hitting them big in the practice sessions. Brevis has played 10 matches in his IPL career and scored 230 runs. Fleming at the pre-match press conference did not rule out his inclusion in the XI.
"He's one of the options that we'll look at. We've got other players as well who have been with us for the whole tournament. Brevis is a good addition to the squad, but we just have to manage what we think would be the best team, given the players that have been working away with us, and also look at the impact that Brevis can have. So that's part of the discussion," said Fleming.

He also explained the reason why the CSK middle order has not flourished as expected. The likes of Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi and Deepak Hooda have not performed as expected of them. Shivam Dube has been used as an impact sub in most of the games and, alongside Ravindra Jadeja, has bailed the team out of trouble a few times.
"It's a mix of things - maybe confidence is low. The IPL is tough. Players are getting starts - 20s and 30s - but we haven't converted those into big scores. We're missing that one 75+ innings that sets up the rest of the team. So the batting order hasn't quite clicked, and we haven't had a single performance worthy of our "honours board" this year," said Fleming.
With CSK needing to win all their remaining games, the batting position of MS Dhoni will be an interesting observation.
