Indian vice-captain Shubman Gill was involved in a candid chat on the Apple Music YouTube channel. The 26-year-old made headlines recently by becoming the new Indian Test captain and then the vice-captain of the Indian T20I team.
Shubman Gill's rise has been unmatched in recent years, and he’s already being touted as a future all-format captain for India.
Off the field, Gill also grabbed attention during his conversation with Apple. When asked to name the weirdest cricketer he’s ever played with, most expected him to name a teammate. But Gill’s answer surprised everyone he named someone who’s not even a cricketer: Portuguese football superstar and Manchester United midfielder, Bruno Fernandes.

The unexpected link-up happened during India’s recent tour of England. The Indian team had a fun training session at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester, where Adidas, the sponsor of both Manchester United and the Indian cricket team, brought the two sides together. Gill and Fernandes ended up sharing a light-hearted cricket session.
“Fernandes and a bunch of his teammates had never even picked up a bat or ball before. Watching them try their hand at cricket,” Gill said, “was actually a fun and fascinating experience for him.”

When the host jokingly teased him about not being a Manchester United fan, Gill was quick to set the record straight:
“No, no, I am a Man U fan. I love all sports, and just watching different athletes go about their things and knowing their mindset is something I really enjoy,” he added.
Dominant Start for India in Asia Cup 2025
Meanwhile, Gill and his Indian side kicked off their Asia Cup 2025 campaign in dominant fashion, defeating the United Arab Emirates by 9 wickets.
After winning the toss, India opted to bowl first. UAE started decently in the first three overs, but Jasprit Bumrah’s pinpoint yorker drew the first breakthrough. From there, it was all downhill for the hosts.
They were bowled out for just 57 runs, with Kuldeep Yadav starring with a 4-wicket haul and Shivam Dube chipping in with three wickets.
In the chase, India’s reply was explosive. Abhishek Sharma set the tone at the top, while Shubman Gill played his part in the fireworks. The vice-captain remained unbeaten on 20* off just 9 balls, as India wrapped up the chase in under 5 overs — sealing a record-breaking and dominant start to their tournament.
